Who we are

CEMACH is a self governing body managed by its own board with members nominated by eight Royal Colleges -

  • Royal College of Obstetricians & Gynaecologists (RCOG)

  • Faculty of Public Health (FPH)

  • Royal College of Anaesthetists (RCA)

  • Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP)

  • Royal College of Midwives (RCM)

  • Royal College of Paediatrics & Child Health (RCPCH)

  • Royal College of Pathologists (RCPath)

  • Royal College of Psychiatrists (RCPsych)

We have an independent Chair appointed by our board.  There will be a national professional advisory committee for each of our major programmes (maternal, perinatal and child health).  There will also be extensive lay and voluntary sector involvement on the Board and the national professional advisory committees.  Although funding for the CEMACH programme is provided by a number of bodies, the principal responsibility for funding and commissioning our work rests with the National Patient Safety Agency (NPSA).

Data protection and Section 60

CEMACH has been given Section 60 approval under the Health and Social Care Act 2001 through the Patient Information Advisory Group (PIAG).  This Act enables the Secretary of State to support and regulate the use of patient confidential information in the interest of patients or the wider public good.  CEMACH's approval allows NHS organisations to disclose identifiable patient information to CEMACH without the consent of the patient concerned while remaining within the confines of the Data Protection Act.

CEMACH welcomes enquiries from professionals who may wish to utilise our data or collaborate on specific projects.  A completed copy of our information request form along with a copy of the study protocol should be returned to CEMACH Central Office.
