Perinatal Mortality Surveillance
Clinical Lead: Dr Jon Dorling
Project Manager: Anna Springett
Timescale: Ongoing
Summary: This programme of work monitors perinatal mortality trends, identifies risk factors and provides more in-depth focus on specific clinical issues in order to inform improvements in practice. High quality local, regional and national data on mortality is provided to key healthcare commissioners, healthcare providers, policy makers and other stakeholders for this purpose. Perinatal mortality data have been collected by CMACE and its predecessor bodies since 1994. Surveillance reports on perinatal mortality are produced on an annual basis and also in response to ad hoc requests.
Development work is currently being undertaken to establish an interactive database for authorised users at NHS trusts to allow ongoing monitoring and comparative benchmarking on mortality.
Progress report: All 2009 NHS level reports are currently being developed and are due to be sent out at the end of October 2009. The analysis and report writing for the 2009 annual report has started and is due to be published in Spring 2011.
