Intrapartum Care Project
Project leads: To be confirmed
Timescale: Early 2011 - to be confirmed
Summary: CMACE is recommending that the Intrapartum Care Project will follow Obesity in Pregnancy as the next national project with a maternal and perinatal focus. Intrapartum-related stillbirths and neonatal deaths occuring at 35 or more weeks' gestation will be identified in order to:
- identify possible risk factors for intrapartum-related stillbirth and neonatal death
- identify areas where service provision and clinical care during labour and delivery may be improved in order to optimise outcomes for mothers and babies
The first phase of the project, an Organisational Survey of all maternity units in the UK, is ready to begin early 2011. The survey will assess policies, procedures, equipment, and service provision against national standards, including NICE guidelines and Safer Childbirth report.
